News – August Long Weekend!
The August Long Weekend already! I always feel that summer has almost disappeared and will be gone before I know it – along with so many of our summer residents and tourists – while my husband always says, aah, still so much summer left. Whichever way you feel, enjoy it, we are indeed so very privileged to be in this beautiful place.
New and Noteworthy this week
The Spy & the Traitor – The greatest Espionage Story of the Cold War by Ben Macintyre, now out in paperback, reveals a tale of betrayal, duplicity, and raw courage that changed the course of the Cold War forever.
Travel Light, Move Fast is the latest from Alexandra Fuller – I love this writer and that she has shared her life, beginning with Don’t Let’s Go to the Dogs Tonight. This time it is a return to Africa upon the death of her father – a watershed moment in her life, with more tragedy to come. Absolutely brilliant book!
Another book I just read and loved was Ask Again, Yes by Mary Beth Keane – passed it to my daughter who read it in 2 days – loved it. Read about it next week in the North Star and on our website. I immediately read her earlier book Fever, a novel of Typhoid Mary and her life in New York City in the early 20th century – fascinating historical fiction and somehow also very contemporary.
Margaret Atwood – Starting Out is a biography by Rosemary Sullivan previously published as Red Shoes – now with a new preface.
Have a great long weekend – be safe on the water and on the roads!
