My day started with a couple – long time customers – who made their annual visit to Parry Sound Books. They did their big shop, and we chatted, about all the years that have passed.

It made my day to have their acknowledgement that the work I have done for the past 35 years has been of value – and their kind conversation.

Most of our customers know that Sara Strachan will take over here next spring, this is my last summer. I know I am leaving the store in good hands. She will bring youth and energy and all sorts of new improvements to our ability to do business along with her charm and enthusiasm. And, take us into the next 35 years!

In the meantime, we work together – and here are a few noteworthy new books this week. The deluge of fall releases are coming soon – including a new novel by Donna Morrissey, Rage the Night, later this month – just in time for my fall migration to Newfoundland. Reserve your copy now!

Colleen Hoover has been the flavour of the month for about a year now – old books re-issued and new ones published – including Slammed – flying off the shelves!

Maggie O’Farrell brings us My Lover’s Lover, an intense, unnerving, and passionate story of betrayal, loss, and love.

The Invisible Hour by Alice Hoffman is now in paperback. A novel about a fierce heroine whose life is saved by a book – and its author, even though they live hundreds of years apart.

Pine Island Home by Polly Horvath, one of my favourite Canadian authors for young teens, is now available in paperback. The sequel Pine Island Visitor comes out mid-October!
