News - Early May

The little purple flowers in my backyard in Parry Sound have just popped up, and the forsythia is just starting to bloom – but I am heading to Newfoundland where it will be weeks until spring!

There are a lot of new releases arriving at Parry Sound books this spring – some of the most notable are

The Waiting Hours by Shandi Mitchell is now here!! This is a spectacular, fantastic novel about those who work on the front lines of emergency care – policemen, hospital emergency room nurses and doctors, first responders, 911 call centre staff – and a taxi driver who has his own traumatic past. A truly outstanding book by a great writer.

The Unlikely Adventures of the Shergill Sisters is new from Balli Kaur Jaswal, the author of the hugely popular Erotic Stories for Punjabi Widows. This one is a witty, life-affirming family drama about three Punjabi sisters embarking on a pilgrimage to their homeland to lay their mother to rest.

Clock Dance by Anne Tyler is now out in paperback. Willa Drake looks at the defining moments in her life, 1967, 1977, 1997 – but it is not until 2017 that she is drawn into a situation that will be truly transforming. A lovely novel about hope, and self-discovery.

The Red Daughter by John Burnham Schwartz is a fascinating work of historical fiction about the life of Joseph Stalin’s daughter Svetlana. While we were celebrating Expo ’67 this young woman was on a plane, accompanied by a young lawyer sent by the CIA to smuggle her into the United States.
