Turtles All The Way Down by John Green. A novel for teens about love, resilience and the power of friendship from the author of the hugely popular A Fault in Our Stars.

New and notable this week
The Ninth Hour by Alice McDermott writes about the life of an Irish immigrant in Catholic Brooklyn. A writer of “generous intelligence, sly wit and compassion for our longings, our griefs and revelations” says Jane Hamilton.
Under a Pole Star by Stef Penny is a great big novel set against the stark, timeless beauty of Northern Greenland and also New York and London in the late 1800s. A tale of the golden age of exploration, the corrosive power of ambition, and an epic, incendiary love story.
I was delighted to discover that Whitecap Books has re-issued one of my favourite cookbooks. Second Helpings, Please! was a book I received as a wedding present in 1974 and often refer to when looking for Jewish holiday recipes. This book was originally a project of women in a Montreal chapter of the B’nai Brith, and is full of their family recipes, often the food their own mothers prepared.
The Five Roses Guide to Good Cooking has also been reprinted, once again, also by Whitecap. This is the cookbook my mother and grandmother used, as have I for almost 50 years. A must have for any young person setting out on their own!
The Wimpy Kid Movie Diary – The Next Chapter by Jeff Kinney, the latest installment of this popular series for young readers, is a behind the scenes look at the making of the movie, The Long Haul.
