March 2010

As March comes to an end - an exceptionally mild March in Parry Sound, the snow is gone - we are planning ahead for spring and summer and welcoming customers we've missed since last fall. Yes, you can get to your cottage by boat in March this year! So, head up north and come in to say hello and to see what's new at Parry Sound Books.

Some books to make note of  by our favourite mystery authors have been released this month -

Blue Lightning by Ann Cleeves, #4 in the Shetland Quartet - I'm willing to bet that this will not actually be the last novel featuring Detective Jimmy Perez! If you haven't read this series start with the first, Raven Black, and you'll be immediately hooked.

New in paperback, About Face by Donna Leon, the latest in the Commissario Guido Brunetti mystery series. A little fix of Venice in every one of her novels.

Tea Time for the Traditionally Built by Alexander McCall Smith is now out in paperback so you can also spend a little time in Botswana with Precious Ramotswe.

Graham Hurley has two new volumes featuring Detective Faraday No Lovlier Death and Beyond Reach.

The Girl Who Played with Fire, the second in a trilogy by the late Stieg Larsson is now in paperback, following The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo - the 3rd, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest, will be released in hardcover in June.

In other fiction of a literary bent - The Golden Mean by Annabel Lyon is new in paperback - this book won the Rogers Writers' Trust Fiction Prize in 2009 and was nominated for both the GG and the Giller.

Anne Michaels The Winter Vault also new in paper, and one of my favourites, Advice for Italian Boys by Anne Giardini .

Another of my favourites in hardcover last year Little Stranger by Sarah Waters is now in paperback.

New in hardcover - Curiosity by Joan Thomas which I read recently and loved - watch for a review in the coming weeks.

Also, Anosh Irani who wrote the phenominal Song of Kuhunsha, has a new novel Dahanu Road and Ian McEwan's latest is Solar - so much to read, so little time!

Look on our website in the reviews section for reviews of some of these books.
