June 2010

It may only be the 1st of June but it feels like mid-summer in Parry Sound – warm & sunny every day – the only thing missing is the crowds of summer residents and tourists. We are anxiously awaiting your return! The downtown construction is almost finished – we are able to drive down the main street most days now, finishing touches are being made to the sidewalks. It will be very lovely when finished but there is no doubt that it has had a negative effect on downtown shopping this spring – so now that it is done, please return and frequent your favourite downtown businesses!

The water on Georgian Bay is lower than ever – there is already a fire ban in effect – but the swimming is great! This summer has the making of one of the best ever for camping and cottage visits.

New Releases include

The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest by Steig Larsson, the 3rd and final in his popular series.

The God of the Hive – the most recent in Laurie R King’s Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes series

We’ve been busy reading novels for teens this spring – and have picked our favourites, good strong fiction, for summer reading – if you are a teacher consider adding them to your classroom reading –

Bird Lake Moon by Kevin Henkes, Red Kayak by Priscilla Cummings, The Dead Man in Indian Creek by Mary Downing Hahn, How We Live Now by Meg Rosoff, The Smile by Donna Jo Napoli, and The Worst Thing She Ever Did by Alice Kuipers.
