Mid March 2017

NEWS 6 March 2017

This would be a really good day to stay home with a book, on the couch with the fire on – instead of shivering in the store, forcing myself to work, while looking out at the cold and grey day, and the salt covered cars.

But, it is also a day when I can look at some of the new releases to share with you, and the most beautiful cookbook has just come in the door –

FEAST by Lindsay Anderson and Dana Vanveller

Recipes & Stories from a Canadian Road Trip

These two friends crisscrossed the country speaking with farmers, grandmothers, First Nation elders, and acclaimed chefs, collecting stories and recipes from coast to coast to coast. The resulting book is a stunning representation of the diversity and complexity of Canadian cooking – a beautiful, beautiful book!

In the Name of the Family by Sarah Dunant is a novel of Machiavelli & the Borgias. She writes of the wonders of Renaissance Italy; power, passion, beauty, brutality, and the ties of blood.

New in Paperback

A Hero of France by Alan Furst

Paris 1941. The City of Light, occupied by the Nazis. Alan Furst has written scores of novels that take place just before and during the Second World War. My husband devours them - and every man I’ve recommended one to, comes back for the rest!

In this Grave Hour by Jacqueline Winspear is the most recent in the Maisie Dobbs series. I’m hooked on these stories of a nurse in the First World War and her life in England afterwards, where she runs a private detective agency – while also working, on occasion, for the Secret Service. It is now 1939 and Great Britain in once again heading to war.

The Wonder by Emma Donoghue. A new novel by the author of Room. This time the story of an Irish village mystified by what appears to be a miracle, but may actually be a murder.
