News - midsummer 2015
Oh Summer – I try to squeeze it all in – family and friends and time at the cottage – and working at the store during this very busy season when we do enough business to keep us open all year long.
Thank you for your support – it is indeed essential and I am very lucky to have such committed and loyal customers!
New this week -
Broken Promise by Linwood Barclay – a brand new book from one of our most popular Canadian mystery writers – and new in paperback is The Long Way Home by Louise Penny – her new hardcover featuring Chief Inspector Gamache Nature of the Beast is due 25 August – make sure you are on the waiting list for this one.
Blue Mind by Wallace J Nichols – we all know the benefits of living on the water – so it is no surprise to us that a scientist has figured out that “being near, in, on, or under water can make you happier, healthier, more connected, and better at what you do.”
Dam Builders by Michael Runtz – the natural history of beavers and their ponds – beautiful big book of photographs and text – love them or hate them – here is everything and more you ever want to know about these persistent creatures.
Coco Chanel and the Pulse of History by Rhonda K Garelick – this is a biography about the fashion icon – a great companion to Mademoiselle Chanel, a sizzling work of historical fiction by C W Gortner.
The Visitors by Sally Beauman is now in paperback – a terrific novel about archaeologists in Egypt in the early 1900s – Carter and Carnarvon and the discovery of Tutankhamen’s tomb.
Circling the Sun by Paula McLain – by the author of The Paris Wife – this one is way better and is a totally engrossing work of historical fiction about Beryl Markham – flyer and adventurer in Colonial Africa. Make it part of a trio by reading (or re-reading) Out of Africa by Karen Blixen and West With the Night by Beryl Markham – fascinating women and a fascinating time.
Adult colouring books are all the rage this summer – we have two new ones featuring paintings by Tom Thomson and the Group of Seven.
