Thomas Trofimuk
Despite the SNOW on Wednesday 20 April there was an enthusiastic audience for a reading by Thomas Trofimuk at the Charles W. Stockey Centre. Thomas read from his most recent novel Waiting for Columbus and shared with us a selection from a novel just finished and delivered to his agent last week - we can look forward to seeing it in print in the fall of 2012.
Thomas also talked about being on the Richard & Judy book club in England last fall - Waiting for Columbus is one of their 100 best books of the decade and a best seller in Great Britain. He is a charming and interesting man and a terrific writer - we look forward to the next novel.
We had planned to take Thomas out in a boat and show him something of Georgian Bay on Thursday, before sending him back to Edmonton, but had to change our plans because of the weather. Instead Thomas volunteered to spend some time with local students - at both the Parry Sound High School and William Beatty Public Schools working with the students on poetry writing. Thank you, Thomas, for giving Parry Sound students the gift of your inspiration!
